Podiatry (Foot & Ankle Surgery)

Foot and Ankle Surgery, or Podiatry, is a field of medicine that strives to improve the overall health and well-being of patients by focusing on preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions associated with the foot and ankle. In Oklahoma, Doctors of Podiatric Medicine (DPMs) are physicians and surgeons who practice on the lower extremities, primarily on the foot and ankle. Oklahoma requires preparatory education of DPMs including four years of undergraduate work, followed by four years in an accredited podiatric medical school, followed by an Oklahoma hospital-based residency. DPMs are licensed in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico to diagnose and treat the foot and ankle and its related or governing structures by medical, surgical, or other means. Oklahoma is one of the states that also include ankle care as part of the podiatric physician's scope of practice.  Surgical Specialists of Oklahoma, PLLC is proud to have foot and ankle surgeons as part of our excellent team of surgeons.  For more information about our foot and ankle surgeons visit our physician directory.

The skills of podiatric physicians are in increasing demand because disorders of the foot and ankle are among the most widespread and neglected health problems. It is important to us that our patients are given as much education as possible regarding their diagnosis. Below are some educational links that might help with your better understanding general surgery diagnoses. If your diagnosis is not listed, please feel free to contact us for direction to educational links pertaining to your particular medical situation.
